Ladies Vs. Ricky Behl:
What would expect from the Yash Raj
manufacturing unit? Sweet to a fault, you can classify the products as
diabetic. And like the ailment, it is something that declares that the rot has
set in. You can take it at your own peril. The film house has made it its brand
identification to have romance in the air, sweet romance in the air, youngsters
brash and energetic telling some romance . Locations vary from Swiss mountains,
to Punjabi farms and even Pakistan but the idea of building on just plain
energy is the story line and the production process.
Coming with a pair that sold BBB to success, the film returns with the same pay
slip. This time the magic is missing and repetition reduces value. Strangely
the lead pair enact a screen chemistry devoid of any merit. Both individually
energetic, fail to convert the combo magic.
The central character is a con man. Ricky Behl ( Ranveer Singh) is busy making
mega bucks by cheating helpless gals. His three victims for the show are :
Dimple Chadda ( Parineti Chopra) a Delhi lass full of beans till she and her dad
are cheated by the dude. Following is the yuppie who would do anything to
further her career- those MBA from some where sorts Raina ( Dippanita Sharma)
and then the innocent Lucknowi prototype who believes in the virtues of the
small town mind set-Saira Rashid ( Aditi Sharma)
The three decide to get even with the guy who cheated them of big money and
adapts the same game plan. So we have a small time sales girl picked up: Ishika
Desai (Anushka Sharma) who decides to woo the guy with the same game plan. In
our cinema the hitherto smart alec can turn dud . The reverse metamorphosis
takes the story of incidents a little further. Suddenly the BBB group relight
the magic of the past and rich by a smooch decide that they are in lave.
Hounded in the back drop by the three revenge seeking victims, Ishika denies
love and when conned , walks out. Lest you imagine that the film has a
different ending , you are adviced against any naiveté.
In a film with nothing much to offer, Director Maneesh Sharma offers some moments
and clean performances from the cast. However it is Ranveer as the central
character who some how believes in the Gulshan Grover school of acting: change
costumes to change character. As the fulcrum of the story and he fails and with
him the film’s narration. In contrast the three girls and full of energy and
bring a high degree of life to their character. See the film , if nothing for
the full of life performance from Parineeti Chopra. We have been concentrating
on the wrong Chopra for years. One only hopes she does not go the Divya Dutta
way and we get to see more of her. The film is about the gals Vs. the guy. What
is held back from the viewer is that it is also they Vs. Us.
