Fame and charm can even mislead the fine faced and let the damsel be in
distress. After taking a look at the guys on whom fortune frowned, let us take
a look at the gals of the same club:
Vimi: With Sunil Dutt and Raj Kumar as co-stars and the likes of Balraj Sahani
sharing screen space and some superb music from the Ravi – Mahendra Kapoor
combine, this stone faced actress of Humraaz never really surfaced palpably
later.
Kalpana: With a success like Professor alongside Shammi Kapoor, the gates to
the top bracket ought to have not just opened but stayed opened. Unfortunately
she did not share the fortunes of a Saira and a Sharmila. On the career front
she slipped into B grade films and a career of which she could say: Awaaz dekhe
hum tum bulao, Mohabat mein itna na humko satao.
Salma Agha: She too made it in style, had two actors vying for her, BR Chopra
launching her in a Muslim Musical Nikaah. Unfortunately her Nikaah with the box
office was short lived. Dil ke armaan aansoon mein reh gaye!!
Madakini: The voyeur’s delight, she took to water like a duck and so too to
failure. She drifted into a different world and stayed back only to be
mentioned for all the wrong reasons and never to visit the Ram Teri level of
success.
Bhagyashree Patvardhan: Here was yet another dream debut!! She walked aside
with Salman in a cult film and the tested formula of a love story. She then
made the Himalayan blunder and also insisted on making Friday appearances with
the man of her life. She, he and the films were summarily rejected. The
audience only once were willing to say: Maine Pyar Kiya.
Zeba Bhakhtiyaar: Launched with a lot of fanfare as a salute to Indo Pak
friendship, this was a damp squib. She has the features and the charm, only not
the luck. Even the RK banner did not help. Success faded like the Henna on the
palm!!
Gracy Singh: One match wonder. She shared not just screen space with the Aamir
but also was part of the only film on cricket that was a success and yet found
it difficult to replicate. The Lagaan star did make a few feeble appearances
but never to be noticed to comment.
Gayatri Joshi: Now she did not have too much of acting talent, in the first
place. Thanks to the league of her launch, Swades got the viewers to watch her.
With that kind of performance and considering that it was one film where Shah
Rukh did well and the film did not, no film maker was willing to sign her in in
while matrimony was waiting round the corner.
Madhu: This Roja is an enigma. She bloomed every time and yet withered. Down
south she made a big splash with Roja and repeated it with Phool Aur Kante and
then it was more thorns than roses.
Vijayeta Pandit: Hers was a short Love Story with success. With Rajendra Kumar
backing her on debut and films with star Gaurav and Anil Kapoor there was the
initial promise. Only the promise. Lost in various matters she surfaced here
and there but never in success.
