Star Awards and Hope

Come January and we have already seen reams of paper and reels lost in identifying the best, the worst; the rest and the winners in showbiz

Soon we would be caught up in the awards current. So I got my hopes doing overtime. I told myself that I’m entitled to chase my mirage. So at the coming awards fests of the year, as organisers roll out their red carpets. I hope:

  1. They get imaginative and use anything but red carpets. How about eco-friendly jute mats to have our Celluloid Lords to walk on!
  2. There aren’t two DJs/PJs or a  compeer without sensitivity. How about calling in Ameen Sayani to do a how ?, A Simi or Shabana who could improve the credibility by their sheer presence.
  3. No ‘dance items’ – and medleys with scantily dressed (?) guys  and gals walking up and down to rhythm in a manner that makes Raveena and Karishma look graceful !!.
  4. Instead why not have a half hour dance recital by Kamal Hassan, Vyjanatimala, Hema or Rekha.
  5. Hopefully there is no film of Shah Rukh Khan. How can a self respecting industry give him so predictably the award which he does not deserve.
  6. We do away with  those envelops and two “celebrities” walking up to the podium with smiles that reiterates the Star Value (or lack of it) with results- a text book instance of ‘much ado about nothing’
  7. Please no Dia Mirza, Celina Jaitley, Fardeen, Rekha, Poonam Dhillon, Sridevi.
  8. Why don’t we get Anita Raaj in place of Poonam Dhillon, Meenakshi in place of Sridevi. Sushmita Sen as the Diva instead of the Kanjeevaram decked Rekha
  9. Why not have Sreesanth and Harbhajan perform in place of Saif or Shahid.
  10. Not have those predictable dedications to “Mom” – whether Sanjay Leela Bansali gets the salute for Guzarish or not.
  11. Why not Lifetime Achievement Award to Salil Choudary.
  12. No Boman Irani, SRK and Saif with their trademark one-liners.
  13. Can I please not have Sheila Ki Jawani and Munni Badnaam Hui.
  14. Perhaps it is a good idea to have a ghazal performance followed by the winners on stage seated – a salute to the early years of Filmfare!!

The shows are so bereft of imagination and so predictable. Let’s hope (against hope!) that some one there gets a trifle imaginative and does something different. The year has thrown up some imaginative cinema Lets see if the “minds behind the awards” stand up and give us a show with a difference!!
