Poster Boys Hindi Movie Review

Hindi cinema is getting tongue in cheek. Interestingly there are back to back light-hearted films dealing with sex related subjects. Here too the film maker Shreyas Talpade eschews vulgarity and gets the Deol brothers to perform to their strengths. In a short film (just stretching beyond two hours) the film deals with a mindset of how men are looked down for undergoing a vasectomy. There are three guys who meet accidentally at the prologue: Jagawar (Sunny Deol) an ex-soldier, Vinay (Bobby) a school teacher who suffers from mid teaching amnesia and Arjun (Shreyas Talpade) a juggler who is making the best of the world. They accidentally get clicked together at a dance show.
Fast forward to Jagawar who with wife Sunita (Sonali Kulkarni) are busy getting an engagement ceremony for the sibling of the former in the house going only to stopped by the boys’ family that refuses to proceed with the engagement. Similarly, we have Vinay’s wife Surajmukhi (Samiksha Bhatnagaar) who screams her way out of matrimony and the parents of Rai (Ashwini Kalsekar) call off the engagement of Ria with Arjun. The common thread of disappointment is that the guys in question have made a public declaration that they have undergone a vasectomy. The guys are flabbergasted at the advertisement and the hoarding all over the town. Further probe would reveal that the bureaucracy has stepped in with the guffaw to keep the Ministry of family welfare in good humour. How the three guys battle it out and finally restore peace to their respective relationships is what the poster boys is all about.
The film depends largely on the typical humour of the Deol style and those who like it are sure to like this film. More than anything the film showcases the superior skills of Shreyas and raises hope that our cinema gives him better chances. I hope guys other than Rohit Shetty are listening. In fact, as a director it is clear that Shreyas has picked a trick or two from Rohit’s book. Unfortunately, the chemistry between the couples is sadly missing. The male bonding is fine. Sunny is trademark and poker faced to a nicety. Bobby tries hard. Shreyas is perfect. Watch the film for the fun filled Poster Boys who do not promise much but deliver enough for a few minutes of harmless laughs.
