Kerinta Telugu Movie Review

KERINTA
A whiff of fresh air marks the film. Interestingly treated, sculptured and narrated. Credit must go to Sai Kiran Adivi for giving the college scenario a sincere touch and eschew the hackneyed approach of crass jokes and 30 year olds doing the main role as a college student. Never mind the rough edges of the non star actors and their initial communication with the camera. He shows that even within the limited parameters of Tollywood a tale can be fresh and viewable. Never mind if the film is just that.
Three love stories. They deal with ‘relationships’. This comes a week after Dil Dhadakne Do. Different peoples, different orbits and styles, different treatment, different takes. Yet all deal with relationships in a metro world of gloss and a clear departure from the not so distant past. A film that does not add embarrassment to the archive shelf.
Three love stories: Jai (Sumant Ashwin) in a group of five is the first to find love. On a bus journey. Love literally flashes when he sees Manaswani (Sri Divya) a doctor in training. While romance is his life, she is focused on a career with dreams of doing research Down Under. After an initial summary rejection she warms up to him and finally makes the choice in favour of love. You do not expect our film makers to dare!! But then…
Sid (Vishwanath) has a mother (Pragati) who rules the home with an iron fist as she is the Principal of a college. He does not dare to tell her his passion for music and his love for Priya (Tejaswini). While she places a great premium on honesty, it is a major casualty in the list of Sid’s priorities. The clash is when Priya realises that she is in love with a guy who cannot stand up and would rather crawl to convenience and stand to protest. Would she dare to give him the boot? Surely no, but then…
Nooka Raju (Paravateesam) comes from a rural background to the campus and looses his heart to a FB friend not realising that love is waiting in the form of Bhavna (Sukeerti) the other girl in the group. He takes her for granted and in a moment of fury questions her right to invade into his privacy. This breaks the relationship between the two. After being cheated by the FB friend he comes to terms with life and then the self respecting girl would ideally show him the door but then….
But then the film maker is talking about the times when we have forgotten a full throated laugh for our joys, when we have forgotten to shed tears at our sorrows. Times when agony and ecstasy are synthetic. Return to the real is the plea. The cast is interesting and sincere. But standing out are Parvateesam, Sumanth Ashwin and the awesome Sukeerti. All three have great promise and hopefully we would see more of them. It is a refreshing outing just as the monsoon arrives. Good news for Telugu cinema.
