High Court Briefs – June 08 2011

Two independent writ petitions on the working of reservation of backward classes in the forthcoming elections to Panchayat Raj bodies and Municipalities were adjourned by the High Court on Wednesday. While Justice Rohini adjourned to Thursday a petition on question of reservation in Municipalities, Justice Naushad Ali adjourned to next week the petition dealing with reservations in Panchayat Raj elections. U Sambasiva Rao and others filed the two petitions seeking implementations of the rule of reservations in the ABCD categories. The petitioners referred to the recommendations of the Anantaraman Commission made way back in 1970. The present action of the government in providing 34% reservations to BCs but not providing categorised reservation is questioned. The writ petitions came up before two different judges based on subject allocation.
